  Week 2 Review  (Eric Walton -- 2006 Federal Candidate)    Post #157 -- (Tuesday, December 13, 2005 -- 8:50:09 AM)
Another good week on the campaign trail.

Apparently we were the first Green Party EDA in Canada to officially register with Elections Canada.

The big event of the week was the Press Conference with Green Party Leader Jim Harris at Fort Henry on Thursday. The Press Release issued was on Canada/U.S relations and specifically on the risks of the "Deep Integration" process the Liberals committed Canada to without consulting voters. It was a beautiful sunny day with a only a slight wind, and it felt wonderfully symbolic to have the Fort as a backdrop to the announcement of the GPC's policy position on this issue. The Fort had been built to deter U.S expansionist ambitions in this area and succeeded by its mere presence without having had to fire any cannons. I though it very appropriate that it was again serving the political cause of Canadian sovereignty in the digital age.

Later after lunch, Jim had a stimulating discussion with students at Sir Winston Churchill elementary school to explain Green policy as part of an innovative student voting initiative that they have now conducted for three elections. Back in 2003 during the Ontario Provincial election, I in fact gave my first official political speech at Sir Winston Churchill school and was very honoured to win the students endorsement in that election.

Still very few political signs anywhere - our initiative in political moderation is working!! What a great start to the campaign.
