The first annual Kingston Greens fund-raising dinner was held at the Curry Original restaurant in downtown Kingston on Monday, April 26th.

Kingston Greens supporters filled the Curry Original Indian restaurant at 253a Ontario St. in downtown Kingston for a traditional Indian buffet, keynote speakers, and a silent auction. The event was held as a campaign fund-raiser for the Kingston Greens as they gear up for the impending federal election. Tickets sold for $50 or more per seat and the event was sold out.

Mike Nickerson, a long-time environmentalist, activist, writer and sustainability strategist living in Merrickville, Ontario, delivered the keynote address. Mike discussed themes covered in his latest book Life, Money and Illusion and fielded questions from those in attendance. To find out more about Mike Nickerson's Sustainability Project, Well-being Measurement or Question of Direction initiatives check out his website at http://www.flora.org/sustain.

Janina Fisher Balfour, Green Party of Canada candidate for Kingston and the Islands also rallied the troops with a rousing speech urging Green supporters to take an active part in the upcoming federal election. Janina, as the only woman running for office in Kingston and the Islands, directed part of her speech directly to the women in the audience, challenging them to make sure their voices get heard. Janina also explained how she became active in politics and why she is now determined to further the Green cause and be the first Green MP in Ottawa.

On this evening the Kingston Greens also held a silent auction which brought in a substantial sum. The Green Party is the only main party to make a policy of not taking donations from corporations or trade unions. Instead we get our funding purely from grassroots supporters and members, reflecting our status as a party of the people rather than vested interests and large organizations. So, fund-raising efforts like this silent auction are of critical importance and we are quite pleased that this one went so well.

Many, many thanks!!:
First of all, we'd like to extend a hearty thanks to Ali and the staff at the Curry Original who did an excellent job hosting and catering the event. We greatly appreciate your hard work, delicious food, and tremendous hospitality. You no doubt gained more loyal customers from those few in attendance who had not been to Curry Original before.

Thanks to Mike Nickerson for sharing his wisdom and expertise.

Thanks also to all the generous silent auction donors. And to all of those who made bids. And to all of those in attendance for helping us generate funds and excitement for the upcoming federal contest.

And finally, thanks to Brooke Gilmour, Janina, and Eric Walton for organizing the whole thing. Thanks!
