Janina Fisher Balfour rallies the troops with Green Party of Canada leader Jim Harris in attendance.

There are now only two weeks left in the 2004 federal election campaign. Green Party candidate Janina Fisher Balfour and the Kingston Greens are rounding out of the stretch and gathering up steam for a big finish!

Hundreds of Green Party lawn signs have been requested by Kingston citizens and have been delivered by our intrepid band of sign distributors. By some accounts, certainly in some neighbourhoods, no other party in Kingston can claim as many signs on private lawns as the Greens.

At the same time, more and more canvassing volunteers are hitting the streets with the dynamite Green Party platform in hand and are letting the people of Kingston know that they have a real alternative in this election.

Radio ads have begun playing on CFLY FM and JOE FM radio in Kingston. And a mailing of our pamphlets went out to 10 000 Kingston households.

In an indication that the national media have finally begun to recognize the new prominence of the Green Party of Canada, the Globe and Mail has reversed its decision to exclude the Greens from their online Voter Toolkit.

Co-Campaign Manager Eric Walton outlines the week's game plan to the campaign team at HQ.

Unfortunately, the consortium of broadcasters that are hosting the leader's debates did not have the good sense of the Globe and Mail and are still refusing to allow Green Party leader Jim Harris to debate. The unfairness of this decision, however, has resonated with many voters across the country and has led to a lot of free press. Many people who would not have otherwise known about the Greens have now taken steps to learn more about the plucky party shut out of the debates.

In week three, Kingston Greens candidate Janina Fisher Balfour attended some of the first All Candidates Debates of the Kingston campaign such as the debate hosted by the Senior's Association (see picture below).

By all accounts, the debate went well and Janina held her own against the other 5 candidates. Janina received some excellent feedback from several audience members who said they were "very impressed".  Needless to say, with her performance at the debate Janina won over many in the audience, many of whom weren't famililar with the Green Party. Several of those in attendance made an effort to speak to Janina in person and tell her that she had their vote. An auspicious beginning!
